History of Migration

As mentioned earlier the Rëra have been originated from Machoi Sinra pum, unarguably, the migration starts from there. The original place Machoi Sinra Pum is believe to be somewhere in the eastern side of Myanmar. It is believed that Rëra migrated towards different directions from Machoi Sinra Pum at the time of their exodus. But it is difficult to ascertain the generations and years of their stayed at Machoisinra pum and the transition period from Machoisinra pum to reached and have settlement at Kachu village in Hangja area of Myanmar since there is no written record of their migration.

They have migrated from place to place as sojourner before they reached and could settle at Kachu village in Hangja area. Firstly, in the time immemorial they (Rëras) migrated to Musa-Mujong hill from Machoisinra pum apparently when the world was inundated. Then, they (Rëras) migrated to Langjo-Langja when the flood water receded. But they could not stay for longer period at Hangju-Hangja due to un-congenial or unpleasant environment and consequently, they migrated towards eastern direction to Hangja.

Thereafter, they repeatedly changed their village and remained unstable for more than hundred years. From Hangja they migrated to Sheychikorey then to Longkam – Shekam again to Wah-jak-jup again to Longchum and Teklom all places in the southern belt of Myanmar erstwhile Burma.

After years of settlement in those places they further migrated to plain, fertile and blissful land known as Kachu which is located in an Indo-Burma border and is approximately 100-150 KM away from Arunachal Pradesh. Kachu is the place where most of the Rëra have come and met there from every direction and settled together there. Kachu village is known for the most plain, fertile and favorable land they ever had. Subsequently, they spend 5 (five) generations there at Kachu, and in the last part of 18th century A.D. they, finally, migrated to India from Kachu village (in Myanmar) to Manmao area of Changlang District of Arunachal pradesh and spread out to the present settlement in both Arunachal Pradesh and Assam (India) mainly in Changlang and Tinsukia District.

When they left Kachu village, at first, they settle down at Chummit- Lishey or Jala Lisan, Umpang- Sin-nang, in Manmao Circle and later they gradually scattered at various places in search of adequate jhum cultivation land, availability of fertile land, water etc. for their livelihood. These places are namely Sinwang, Manmao, Walangtoi, Chummit, Lishey, Longshang villages in Manmao circle. And later some of them have shifted to Kharsang Circle and settled down at Balinong, Jorong, New Lisan, Singmao, Nongtham and Neirong. Some of the family migrated to New Jukhi and Lunglung of Changlang district, Phulbari of Assam, Jagun 10 Mile of Assam, Mungkam and Inthem of Assam.

Thus, today Rëra tribe is concentrated mainly in Changlang District in Arunachal Pradesh and Tinsukia District of Assam. Some of them remain there in Myanmar.
